1978 $1 Silver Canadian Coin, 11th Commonwealth Games
This Canadian specimen silver dollar commemorates the 11th Commonwealth Games which was held in Edmonton, Alberta that year. The reverse design features the symbol of the Games in the centre, and the official symbols of the ten sports which comprise the Games along the perimeter. The obverse was modified specifically for this issue.
A brilliant image relief is struck against a matte or lined background in order to achieve maximum visual impact. Specimen coins are struck up to two times on numismatic presses.
This silver coin comes packaged in a handsome leatherette clamshell case with white cardstock sleeve. Some sleeves show a bit of wear and could have hand-written notes left by previous owner. This uncirculated coin is encased in a clear plastic capsule, keeping it in mint condition. Note that the coin may be toned, due it's age and silver content.
